We recognise tree planting as an effective mechanism to sequester carbon, which is why we fund global reforestation programmes through Eden. However, reforestation projects rarely issue verified carbon credits due to challenges guaranteeing the permanent sequestration of carbon. The tonnes of carbon sequestered by a tree are calculated over a trees entire lifetime, which can be difficult to guarantee will happen and therefore validate the carbon sequestration. Given this, offsets purchased through Greenfleet cannot be counted towards your carbon offset badge.
