Understanding "Input Columns" in the Audit Report

What each input column represents, why some records populate more than others, and how to read them correctly

Overview

The audit report includes multiple input columns -e.g. Input 1, Input 2, Input 3, Input 4 - that display the variables used in emissions calculations. The number of columns populated depends on the calculation methodology applied to each record. Some records may only use Inputs 1 and 2, while others populate all four.

For a complete view of all variables used in any calculation, refer to the All Input Data column. The individual input columns break these variables into separate fields to make them easier to review.

Why do some records only show Inputs 1 and 2?

Records show values in Inputs 1 and 2 when the calculation methodology requires only two variables.

Example: Spend-based calculations

Spend-based calculations typically use the following variables:

  • Period
  • Spend value

These variables are multiplied by the applicable emission factor to produce the emissions result. Depending on the methodology, Input 1 may represent either the  period or the spend value, with the other variable appearing in Input 2.

To confirm the mapping of each variable, refer to the All Input Data column.

Why do some records show Inputs 1 through 4?

When a calculation requires more than two variables, values are distributed across additional input columns.

Example: Employee commute calculations

Employee commute calculations may draw on several variables, including:

  • Electricity assumptions (e.g., kWh per day for employees working from home)
  • Period
  • Usage (e.g., days worked per year)
  • Number of Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) employees

Because multiple variables are required, values may be populated across Inputs 1 through 4.

Example: Waste calculations

Where actual waste data is unavailable, the methodology may apply assumptions in place of measured data. These calculations can include variables such as:

  • Assumption values
  • Emission factors
  • Floor area
  • Period

As a result, multiple input columns are typically populated for these records.

Where can I find all variables used in a calculation?

The All Input Data column contains the complete list of variables used in each calculation. The values shown in Inputs 1–4 are drawn from this data and displayed in separate fields to provide greater transparency into the methodology.

For the most complete view of the inputs applied to any record, always refer to the All Input Data column.
