How do I add a third layer of reporting (sub-entities)
Sub-entities in Trace
We’ve released a new feature called Sub-entities that makes it easier to structure and report your carbon footprint across different parts of your organisation, your freight forwarders, and even their end clients.
What are Sub-entities?
Sub-entities let you create a reporting structure that reflects the real-world way your business and partners operate.
For example, you could create:
-
Headquarters as your top-level entity
-
Freight forwarders (e.g. DHL, Toll, FedEx) as sub-entities
-
End clients (e.g. Fisher & Paykel, Sony, Panasonic) as further sub-entities
This gives you flexible reporting options inside the Measure Dashboard. You can filter and export results at any level:
-
See your organisation’s entire footprint
-
See the footprint of one freight forwarder (including all their clients)
-
See the footprint of an individual end client
How do I manage and add sub-entities?
-
Contact our support team
to unlock sub-entities reporting. -
Once enabled, go to your Data Collection Hub (DC Hub).
-
Click See all in the Entities section.
-
Click the three dots next to an entity to manage it.
-
Choose Edit Details or Link sub-entity.
Important note about emissions factors
Trace uses the location of each entity to apply the correct local emissions factor.
-
For example:
-
An entity in London will use UK emissions factors
-
An entity in Sydney will use Australian emissions factors
-
This ensures the footprint reported for each entity reflects the appropriate regional emissions standards.
Why use Sub-entities?
-
Report at different levels of detail
-
Share tailored reports with partners or clients
-
Maintain clarity and accuracy in your emissions breakdowns
-
Export results into charts or CSVs for easy sharing
👉 Tip: If you’d like to start using Sub-entities, reach out to our support team and we’ll enable it for your account.
